2020- The Year That Wasn’t? NATCAP Year End Summary
2020 started off with a bang for SGMP NATCAP. We had two amazing programs in January and February. Looking back, our topics of Cyber Security and Sustainability were ideal for the world we were about to enter.
In March, the NATCAP board fought valiantly to keep our Education Day on schedule and as planned, however, COVID-19 had other plans... And WOW has the world changed since those first weeks of March when we thought we would be working from home for a few weeks and see each other again for GMID.
We were able to pivot the remainder of our spring education to webinars and had a great line-up of speakers. If you missed any of those sessions, you can find the recordings on our YouTube Channel. Below is one of the earlier Word Clouds we did asking you how you were feeling about the hospitality community. So many great, powerful words that still ring true today.
The NEC was held virtually in May. It wasn't the same as seeing everyone in person, but the education and networking was still top notch! At the Sam Gilmer Awards ceremony, NATCAP celebrated big wins! We won 1st place for Communications of the Year, 2nd place for Programming of the Year, Highest Net Growth in Membership, and Honors in Chapter Operations! We also celebrated our members who won individual awards: NATCAP Board Secretary Kathleen Ryan, CGMP, won Planner of the Year; SGMP National Board Treasurer Chris McLaughlin, CGMP, won Supplier of the Year, and NATCAP President Melissa Woodruff, CMP, won the Presidents Award. Huge congratulations all around!
When the board met over the summer to start planning for our new education year, we wanted to be back in-person for the monthly meetings, so long as it was the responsible decision. We were successful in hosting our first hybrid event in September in partnership with the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center and Cvent. After that we struggled to find hotel and platform partners that had availability to support us and reverted to webinars for our October and November programs. We were excited to partner with the Golden State Chapter for the November program, allowing our chapter members to meet members of another chapter, and take a virtual trip to the Philippines!
We also started a new Instagram Takeover Series with our suppliers and have held three so far with Visit Tampa Bay, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, and the Wyndham Orlando. You can find all of the stories that our supplier partners shared in the highlights on our Instagram page. The Instagram Live's are also available on our IGTV. We are starting this series back up on January 19th with Destination DC!
Finally, we closed out the year with a virtual Holiday celebration and fun winter and holiday themed game. We also celebrated the COVID vaccine news with the rest of the events and hospitality industry which will hopefully bring us back to in-person meetings and gatherings!
Thank you to you, our members, for your continuted support of your SGMP chapter. We wish you all a happy, healthy New Year!
