About Us


SGMP is a national association for individuals involved in planning government meetings and for the companies who provide facilities or services to those planners. Our membership includes employees of federal, state and local governments, as well as contract meeting planners, who manage government meetings on a full- or part-time basis.

Our mission is to enhance and promote the expertise of government meeting professionals. Our objectives are to improve the quality of, and to promote the cost-effectiveness of, government meetings.  SGMP is the only national organization in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to government meetings.  We deliver our membership value of education, resources, and networking to 2,300 members and through 29 chapters.  All of our members pledge to uphold our Code of Ethics.  SGMP is one of 31 organizations represented in the Conventions Industry Council (CIC) that promotes professionalism within the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry.

The Society is governed by a national board of directors who are elected every two years by their member peers and is managed by a headquarters staff in the greater Washington, DC, area.  Each chapter elect their own local leaders and hold monthly meetings in their respective areas.
